I found a new hobby/passion about two to three years ago. I began studying how to lift weights and get bigger/stronger, also known as bodybuilding. It's really fascinating to see how muscles grow and become stronger (hypertrophy) as a result of certain training stimuli.
I guess it shouldn't be a surprise to people that I love to lift weights. I've always been interested in athletic performance and I was pretty athletic when I was still studying. But I became interested in learning about something I could do more long-term. Most of us won't be able to keep competing in some kind of sport like football into our 20's because only a small % of people become professional athletes. Even those that do tend to have only a few years in competition before injuries or physical wear and tear get the best of them. But bodybuilding is a little bit different. You can get injuries, of course--especially if you try to lift weights that are too heavy or don't use good form. But if you execute lifts properly and take care of yourself you can do it for decades. I've seen pictures of guys that have stayed in great shape for a long time. One example is Robby Robinson, who is now 70 years old. He's looked great into his 60's and shows no signs of stopping. These guys are inspirations for me. I have found an excellent program that allows me to maximize my muscle development. It's called MI40x (you can see a review here: http://musclereview.net/mi40x-review-mass-intentions-extreme-2-0-cep-exposed/). Investing in a good plan is one of the best decisions I've made because I know I'm not wasting my time on trial-and-error training methods. This new passion for building muscle is really good for me. |
